I love indian food especially the curries, it is why I wanted to introduce you to the aloo palaak (hello aloo palaak…!) ! It is a curry of spinach mixed in and spicy potatoes, all served with a little yoghurt on top, what gives a simple dish but really good.

A vegetarian dish perfect to eat simply with a spoon and accompanied with naans.

Aloo palaak, curry of spinach and potatoes

Ingredients (for 2)

  • 3 potatoes
  • 400 g of fresh spinach
  • 1 tomato (optional)
  • 1 onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 10 cl of water
  • 2 c. c. of cumin
  • 1 c. c. of cumin seeds
  • 1 c. c. of turmeric
  • 1 pinch of chilli powder
  • 1 c. c. of garam massala
  • ghee or olive oil
  • 2 tbsp of yoghurt to the Greek
  • Salt


Peel the potatoes and cut them into large pieces.

In a pan heat the ghee or olive oil and add the cumin seeds, cook 2 min, stirring. Then add the cumin, turmeric and pepper and then the potatoes. Sauté 1 minute and add the water. Cook covered 20 minutes until the water has evaporated. Adjust the seasoning.

Wash and blanch the spinach for 3 minutes in boiling salted water. Drain and blend them. Book.

In a frying pan, heat a little ghee or olive oil and add the onion previously chopped with a clove of minced garlic. Sauté over low heat 10 minutes then add the tomato, chopped. Then pour the spinach mix and the garam masala over and mix. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Arrange the potatoes in a bowl and then pour over the puree of spinach. Serve with a spoon of yoghurt to the Greek on the top.
