You will have understood, I’m 30 years old, I assume half and it’s my birthday ! Spend the thirty is a milestone that I say-it is a cap, it is a peninsula, and up to now I was psychologically arrested at age 28 when I was asked my age (and can be will I still continue ?!), history of a few more years and stay in the twenties. Because yes, now I am aware that I am a big girl (finished the recklessness of 20 years !), I am no longer a student, I have Mini-Mademoiselle, 2 cats, a husband… in short here it deviates ! Finally, 30 years is a beautiful age… but a little big birthday cake to comfort me and help me to pass the course it will not do me wrong !!!

If you knew how long I’ve wanted to test a cake recipe to poppy, since Methuselah, to tell the truth … anyway it’s finally done ! And then I also had bassiné Mr. to have Christmas in a mold layer cake, and I was still not served (bouh not well !!!). Neither one, nor two, so I jumped on the opportunity to assemble my desires and prepare this layer cake poppy and orange. We know the normal association of the poppy and lemon, but personally I also love the orange and I wanted to offer you something that comes out a little (but not too much) out of the ordinary !

For info, I used a round mould 17 cm diameter.

Birthday cake – Layer cake poppy seed and orange {gluten-free}

Ingredients (for 8-10 people)

  • 250 g of flour of corn
  • 110 g butter, softened
  • 100 g of poppy seeds
  • 4 eggs
  • The juice and the zest of an untreated orange
  • 50 g of sugar cane
  • 1 tbsp of baking powder

For the frosting

  • 260 g of sugar ice
  • 250 g butter, softened
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 30 cl of milk


Preheat the oven to 180°.

Beat the eggs and sugar to obtain a mixture that is sparkling. Add the butter and then the flour and baking powder and mix. Finally, add the poppy seeds, the zest and the orange juice to the dough. Pour the preparation into the pan buttered-floured, and bake 40 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool on a wire rack.

To prepare the frosting, beat the butter and sugar to obtain a mixture smooth and slightly frothy then add the milk and the grains from the vanilla pod scraped and then beat new 30 second.

Cut the cake into three discs to equal and then start by spreading the cream between each layer. Finish by chilling the outside of the cake with the remaining cream using a spatula.

Garnish with a few strips of orange zest.
